Spotlight on Brookhaven's Brookleigh Neighborhood

Jennie and Mike New House

Last year I worked with my toughest client ever. He had a difficult search ahead of him in a competitive market. He had very specific criteria – good schools, walkability to shops & restaurants, new construction and to live ITP. This client was my husband, and I thought his “dream” neighborhood didn’t exist.

That all changed in mid-2013 when, I heard rumors of a new neighborhood within Brookhaven called Brookleigh. This area had yet to be developed, and it piqued my interest. As I learned more and more about Brookleigh, I quickly realized that it might be the perfect place for us to call home!

Brookleigh is a 56 acrea mixed-used, master planned community centrally located in north Brookhaven on Johnson Ferry Road. Adjacent to Blackburn Park, the site was redeveloped over the past three years thanks to a partnership with the Housing Authority of DeKalb County, The Norsouth Companies and The Collaborative Firm. The community boasts several housing options including Hearthside at Brookleigh (luxury senior apartments), The Heights at Brookleigh (luxury apartments), and The Reserve at Brookleigh (single-family residences and townhomes built by Ashton Woods). Additionally, there is Central Park – a great open green space with a paved walking path and gazebo area. The final phase of the neighborhood is currently under construction and will be known as the “Shops at Brookleigh.” This area fronts Johnson Ferry Road. A Primrose School and PURE Taqueria are slated to open in Spring 2015 with other various boutiques and restaurants to quickly follow.

The Reserve at Brookleigh neighborhood is in the well-rated Montgomery Elementary, Chamblee Middle and Chamblee High School district. Walkability to the Oglethorpe Shopping Center (Publix, CVS) and to Blackburn Park are icing on the cake! Making the decision to live in the Reserve at Brookleigh has been an excellent choice for our family. This area is no longer a hidden-gem – you can’t miss the buzz of activity as you pass the development at the corner of Johnson Ferry and Durden Drive, so stop by for a visit and see what’s going on in Brookhaven’s newest ‘hood!
