At The Peters Company, we firmly believe that “Leaders are Readers” and each year our team commits to reading business and personal growth books to become better business people – and better people overall (who amongst us doesn’t love the self-help section at the bookstore)?!
Here are a few of our favorites from 2019 and a sneak peek of our first book for 2020!
The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results (Gary Keller & Jay Papasan) :: This book, while co-written by Gary Keller, can be applied to ANY business or personal circumstance – not just real estate. It begs the question, “What’s the ONE Thing I can do such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?” It’s all about extreme focus and digs into the six lies between you and success including ‘Everything Matters Equally,’ ‘Willpower is Always on Will-Call,’ and my personal favorite ‘A Balanced Life.’ You won’t be able to put this one down. I always see it in airports, and it’s a GREAT book to pick up for a flight.
Shift: How Top Real Estate Agents Tackle Tough Times (Gary Keller, Dave Jenks & Jay Papasan) :: In the event we haven’t shared with you already, we believe that we are experiencing a shift in the Atlanta real estate market. While this may scare or worry some agents, we have been preparing all year, and with the backing of this book are ready to help our buyers and sellers in ANY real estate market! Shift focuses on twelve practical strategies for achieving success and intertwines the importance of mindset and action plans around doing so!
Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action (Simon Sinek) :: Andy and Lesley read this book a few of years ago and challenged the entire team to read it this year, and it was a great recommendation! Start with Why explores the fundamental question of what makes some organizations and people more innovative, influential, and profitable than others. Spoiler alert – it’s about asking WHY? rather than WHAT? Reading the stories of organizations such as Apple, Southwest, and Harley Davidson and looking at their key similarities is fascinating, and most importantly this book helped the team truly identify the WHY of The Peters Company which is: “creating massive opportunities for others through real estate.”
So, what’s next!? To kick off 2020 we are reading a highly recommended book…
Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones (James Clear) :: The general idea behind this book is to use it as a guide to changing habits to become 1% better every day. We are looking forward to making changes in our professional and personal lives to become the very best real estate team for our amazing clients!
As always, if The Peters Company can help you with real estate needs (or book recommendations)! We are always here for you. Visit us anytime at ThePetersCompany.com!
