As a former resident of two neighborhoods in Chamblee (Huntley Hills and Sexton Woods) as well as a proud Chamblee High School alum, the City of Chamblee holds a special place in my heart. This is why I am so excited to see all of the new development coming to the area! Below are just a few of the exciting changes that are on the way!
Peachtree Crossing: Located across from the Lowes Home Improvement store on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, this is the most recently announced development for the area. It’s slated to have two major anchor stores with one of them rumored to be a Whole Foods Market. Numerous restaurants, retail space, and a bank are possibilities as well. A couple of small parks and playgrounds along with a direct connection to Keswick Trail round out the development and provide some nice green space for visitors. There has been a lot of talk and excitement about this one from nearby residents, and overall it seems like it will be welcomed with open arms- mine included!
The Blee on Peachtree: Formerly known as Chamblee Plaza, this development has been in the works for some time now and any signs of progress have been almost non-existent so far. Regardless of when the project gets underway, let’s hope that some of the shopping center’s current tenants like Chik-fil-A, IHOP, and Dunkin’ Donuts are all here to stay. It will be interesting to see what other restaurants and retail stores make their way into the development too! Although this will not be new construction like many of the other upcoming developments in the area, the new owner has promised to give the existing structure and parking lot a pretty nice face lift along with some new signage. The revitalization of this location has definitely been a long time coming and I can’t wait to see the final product!
The Olmsted: This mixed-use development sits right on the corner of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Chamblee Tucker Road on the site of the old International Farmer’s Market. From the sound of it, the development will include apartments, townhomes, and a mix of other restaurants and retail space. The development will be located right across the street from the fairly recent Chamblee Village which houses a Super Wal-Mart along with some other shops and restaurants. The Olmsted promises to deliver a cool vibe and fun atmosphere where people will want to be. My favorite part is that renderings of the development show a style similar to that which you may find in popular West Coast cities like Seattle or Portland- a nice change of scenery for the area in my opinion!
Parkview on Peachtree: Former home to Great Gatsby’s Collectibles and Antiques, this mixed-use development will include apartments, grocery, retail, and office space as well as being very transit oriented. The close proximity to the Chamblee Marta Station and walking and bike trails have been heavily touted. Could this be another live, work, and play development like its ever so popular neighbor, Town Brookhaven, just down the street? I sure hope so!
Just as other nearby areas have experienced recent growth and development, Chamblee is not going to be left behind. I feel that Chamblee may be one of Atlanta’s best kept secrets, especially for inside of the perimeter. It’s truly on the brink of explosive growth and development that will hopefully create more jobs, raise home values, and foster a renewed sense of community.
