Scheduling movers, packing belongings, moving, and unpacking belongings can be very stressful. Here are some things you can do to alleviate that stress and make that move smooth!
Set up your utilities so the water, power, cable/internet and gas are on when you close. We’ve seen many times when buyers neglect to do this and the painters come to paint and there isn’t any water so they have to reschedule. If your new county requires the settlement statement from closing to get the water in your name, you can fax the application with the settlement statement from the closing attorney’s office.
Hire a helper to help you pack and unpack – It’s amazing to have even 8 hours of help on each side. And make sure to get the white recycled packing paper, you can buy this at most moving companies, so newsprint isn’t all over everything. Of course, perhaps your family will help for free!
Boxes, Boxes and more Boxes – People are moving all of the time and it’s great to recycle those moving boxes. Look for boxes on the street on trash collection day, and at liquor stores and grocery stores – they love people to use them. When you pack each one, LABEL it for each room on several sides and the top and mark which way is up for the movers. This is so helpful on the back end.
Get your new house professionally cleaned as soon as you have access to it so it is ready for you and your belongings. The last thing you want to do is move and clean at the same time! And you may be cleaning the house you sell.
Get the floors and any painting done prior to moving in – It’s difficult to do either of these once you live in the house, so plan ahead and schedule contractors well ahead of time since these days contractors book early.
It’s easy to get overwhelmed with the moving process in the midst of buying or selling a home. We have tried and true vendors to help and we can assist you every step of the way, so give The Peters Company a call to help you have a smooth move!
