Let’s go back to school for a bit!

Research: Research real estate agents before you choose “the one” to work with. Ask to talk to their past clients, look at their numbers (stats), and figure out if their personality style will work well with yours. Find out if they are knowledgeable in the area you want to live in. Trust me – you might be spending a lot of time with this person, you want to choose wisely!

Learn: Learn about the different neighborhoods and the people who live in them. Drive around at different times of the day, see who’s walking the dog, if there are children outside playing, etc. You’ll also want to learn about your specific likes and dislikes and wants/needs in a home. Do you want hardwood or carpet? Granite or quartz? Brick or siding? Do you want a large yard or not? Now’s the time to figure this out so you don’t waste time looking at homes that aren’t in your desired neck of the woods or that don’t fit your needs.

Study: Study your financing and budget. Talk to your lender and discuss different financing options that might fit your needs. Research the interest rates, current market trends, and nail down your budget. These are all so important to figure out now before you fall in love with a home you can’t afford.
